Mesa takes series from Cougars

        Mesa State took the weekend series from the Colorado Christian Cougars.  On Friday, Mesa won game one, 29-7, before losing the second game, 5-4. Saturday's doubleheader had the Mavericks winning by a scores of 11-7 and 10-6.
        In Game 1, 2B Austin Buck had a record setting day as he went six for six with nine RBI and six runs scored. His nine RBI are a school record. The previous record was held by Jim Gusich ('01), Rion Sundloff ('00), and Jim Galambos ('84), they each had eight RBI. Buck's six runs scored tied a school record. He now shares the record with Randy Ready ('80) and teammate Mike Provencher ('08).
        RHP Jason Fronczak earned his fourth win of the season. Fronczak (4-0) pitched five and two-thirds innings allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out four.
        In Game 2, the Mavericks were limited to six hits and four runs on offense. RHP TJ Butch lost his first decision of the season, he is now 4-1.
        Game 3 saw Mesa State pound out nineteen hits including eight extra base hits. All American Mike Provencher had 4 hits. Freshman Chase Moore had a double and his first homerun as a Maverick.
        LHP Scott Bachman pitched an inning and two-thirds in relief to pick up his second victory of the season. 
        In Game 4, the Mavericks trailed 6-1 heading into the sixth inning before erupting for nine runs. Matt Bodenchuk sparked the rally with his team high ninth homerun. Bodenchuk finished the game with three hits and five RBI.
        RHP Brent Lamaster pitched the final five innings of the game to earn the win. Lamaster struck out nine while only walking one.
        The Mavericks will continue their Denver road swing this weekend when they take on the Regis Rangers in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The Mavericks swept a three-game non-conference series earlier in the season.
