The 27th ranked Mavericks won today's season opener against Grand Canyon University, 16-11. It was the first opening day win for the Mav's since 2004.
        DH Corey Todhunter (Chico, CA) provided the power for the Mavericks offense as he went 3 for 4 with 2 homeruns, a double and 3 runs batted in. Senior SS Matt Bodenchuk (Boulder, CO), returning from elbow surgery last season, collected 4 hits including his first homerun of the season.
        T.J. Butch (Tracey, CA) picked up the win in relief pitching 6 scoreless innings while surrendering only 4 hits. Aaron Guinn (Vancouver, WA) pitched a scoreless ninth inning while recording 3 strikeouts.
        The Mavericks return to action Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for 1:00pm.
