Mesa State men's basketball (3-0) remains undefeated after an 81-77 win over Central Methodist (6-3) Friday night in the Clarion Inn Thanksgiving Classic.
The Mavericks 54-point second half performance, including 16-second half points from Mike Dominguez, erased a 9-point halftime (27-36) deficit.
Central Methodist led the entire first half holding a 14-point lead at the 2:21 mark. The Eagles shot 68.4 percent (13-19) from the floor including 5 of 8 from the 3-point line.
MSC's first lead in the game came at 10:42 on a 3-pointer by Ryan Mortensen for a 54-53 lead. The lead changed hands seven times in the final 10 minutes. MSC took a one point lead (67-66) on a jumper by Russell Gregory at 5:23, and never trailed again on the way to their third straight victory.
Dominguez led all players with 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Jase Herl finished with 19 points, four rebounds and four assists. Herl's 13-first half points kept the Mavericks in the first half.
Michael Bear contributed 14 points, four assists and two blocked shots off the bench.
MSC will take on 12-ranked Metro State Saturday night at 7 p.m. The Roadrunners defeated RMAC foe CSU-Pueblo 87-72 earlier in the evening. CSU-Pueblo and Central Methodist will tip-off at 5 p.m.
