Mavs Beat Rival Western State, 61-39

                Mesa State held the Western State Mountaineers to 25 percent (15-60) shooting from the floor in the Mavericks 61-39 victory on the road in Gunnison Tuesday night. The win improved the Mavs to 6-4 in league play and 9-9 overall. The Mountaineers (9-9, 6-4) scored just 12 points in the first half,  hitting  just 6-of-27 from the field.

                Ryan Mathews led all players with 21 points and finished with four rebounds and three assists. Ryan Mortensen and Andre Carter finished with five rebounds each and combined for seven assists.

                MSC held a 22-12 halftime lead and outscored Western State 39-27 in the second half. The Mavericks led from start to finish and held its largest lead, 24 points, at the 9:06 mark of the second half. WSC's 12 points in the first half is season low for any opponent this season and the Mountaineers 39 total points, also an opponent low.

                MSC will travel to Silver City, NM to face Western New Mexico University this Saturday night.
