As a Redshirt Senior (2022): Capped the cross country portion of the year with an award-winning season… Competed in all six meets, leading the team in five… Became the first Maverick man to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships in seven years, taking 91st at the national meet in University Place, Washington with a 10K PR of 31:10.3… Had qualified by placing 16th overall and as the second individual finisher on a non-qualifying team at the South Central Regional Championships… Earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors with the effort… Was also a Second Team All-RMAC selection after finishing 15th at the conference meet… Placed third in both of the first two meets which were duals against Western Colorado… Set a 8K PR time of 24:08.4 at the second of those, the Gig Leadbetter Maverick Stampede… Was timed in 26:06.3 at the Mountaineer/Cowboy Invite, held at more than 7,700 feet of elevation… Also finished 14th at the NCAA D2 Pre-Nationals… Was the Maverick man on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team... RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll selection...

2021 (Redshirt Junior): Raced in all six of the Mavericks’ meets, leading the team in each of the first four… Named to the RMAC All-Academic First Team… Recorded three successive top-10 finishes to begin the year, placing seventh at the UCCS Rust Buster, third at the Mountaineer/Cowboy Invite and second at the Gig Leadbetter Maverick Stampede, leading CMU to the team win as the top team-scoring runner in the entire field… Finished 58th at the Chile Pepper XC Festival with a season-best 8K time of 25:17.9… Finished 42nd at the RMAC Championships and 162nd at the NCAA Division II South Central Regionals.

2020 (Junior): Enjoyed one of the best seasons in the program's history, highlighted and punctuated by victory at the D2 XC National Invitational in Lubbock, Texas on Nov. 14... Won that 10K race by more than 15 seconds with a 10K PR of 31:37.7 to lead the Mavs to a runner-up team finish... Was later named as the RMAC Runner of the Week for the effort, which allowed him to earn All-National Invite honors... Led the team in all four races throughout the season, recording three top-10 finishes... Finished 18th at the RMAC Championships to garner Second Team All-RMAC plaudits... Finished fifth at the Mountaineer/Cowboy Invite and sixth at the Maverick Invitational... Ran an 8K PR time of 25:01.2 at the home meet on Oct. 10... Was named to the First Team RMAC All-Academic squad.

2019 (Sophomore): Competed in all five meets, including both the RMAC and NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships... Finished 67th at the conference meet as the team's third finisher... Was 80th at the regional with a career-best 10K time of 34:04.1 as the team's No. 2 man... Had posted a 8K career best of 25:48.8 at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open... RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll selection.

2018 (Freshman): Competed in all five of the Mavs' meets... Ran a season-best 8K time of 26:15.3 at the Lewis Crossover... Was 86th at the RMAC Championships and 107th at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships... Had a 10K time of 34:20.9 at the regional.

Prep: Placed eighth as an individual at the 2017 Division 2 Arizona State Championships to lead the Ironwood Ridge High School Nighthawks… Went on to place 17th at the Nike Southwest Regionals with a PR 5K time of 16:09… Placed in the top eight in three different events on the track at the 2018 state championships… Placed second in the 1,600 with a PR of 4:16.37, fifth in the 800 (1:58.08) and eighth in the 3,200 with a PR of 9:37.08... Racked up seven combined wins in those events during the regular season… Has a PR of 1:57.07.


Club: Swept the 800 and 1,500m titles at both the USATF Arizona and USATF Region 10 Junior Olympic Championship meets in 2017 while representing Tucson Elite Athletic Club.

Personal: Is majoring in mechanical engineering technology... Enjoys music, sports, cutting hair and freestyling... Chose CMU to start over by seeking new adventures and friends... Full name is Mar Y El Torres.
