As a Redshirt Sophomore (2022): Ran in all five of the Mavs’ full-team meets… Was amongst the team scorers in the first three, placing a season-best 15
th at the Mountaineer/Cowboy Invite before taking 16
th with a season-best 8K time of 24:52.4 at the Gig Leadbetter Maverick Stampede… Was 99that the NCAA D2 Pre-Nationals before finishing 78
th at the RMAC Championships… Capped the season with a 128
th place finish at the South Central Regional Championships.
As a Redshirt Freshman (2021): Competed at each of the team’s first five meets, including the RMAC Championships… Recorded a pair of top-20 finishes in the first half of the campaign, taking 18
th at both the UCCS Rust Buster and Gig Leadbetter Maverick Stampede, CMU’s home meet… Posted a career-best 8K time of 26:32.2 at UCCS… Also finished 29
th at the Mountaineer/Cowboy Invite before placing 296
th at the Chile Pepper Festival… Was 82
nd at the RMAC Championships.
As a Freshman (2020): Competed in all four of the Mavs' meets, including the RMAC Championships and D2 XC National Invite... Finished 47th at the RMAC Championships as the team's No. 5 runner to help the team secure a berth in the National Invite, which was held in Lubbock, Texas... Placed 61st at the National Invite with a time of 34:20.7 in his lone 10K effort... Set an 8K PR of 26:27.4 at the RMAC meet... Placed 28th at the Mountaineer/Cowboy Invite and 50th at the Maverick Invitational during the regular season.
Prep: Was a 4-year varsity letterwinner in cross country and a 3-time letter winner in track at Fossil Ridge HS… Coached by Dani Cook… Was the team captain as a senior… Earned first team all-conference honors in cross country as both a junior (2018) and senior (2019)... Was a 4-year state qualifier... Finished 18th at the 2019 Nike Cross Southwest Regional after placing 73rd at the 5A State Championships... Finished fourth at regionals... Set track PRs of 4:47.75 (1600) and 10:26.39 (3200) at the 2019 Front Range League Championships as a junior before his senior track campaign was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic... Had finished 24th at the Nike Cross regional in 2018 and 62nd in 2017.
Personal: Is majoring in biology… Son of Ryan and Rebecca Martin… Siblings are Will and Ellie… Aspires to get into medical school and become a surgeon to give back to people who deserve a better life.
Why I Chose CMU: “I loved the environment that I felt when I got to campus. I was quickly able to meet Coach Reetz at a meet in Denver and felt right at home with the team. I love that I am able to be get outdoors very easily from campus and explore the hundreds of trails Grand Junction has to offer.”
