2018 (Senior): RMAC Summit Award Winner for the second straight year... Award is given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA (4.000) competing at the championships... Was the Mavs' lone selection to the RMAC All-Academic First Team... Competed in all five of the team's meets, leading them in four, including in each of the three regular season meets... Began the season with a 14th place finish at the Joe I. Vigil Open with a season-best time of 25:59.6 (4.97 miles)... Finished 15th at the Mountaineer Cowboy Open... Was 78th at the Lewis Crossover, running a career-best 8K time of 26:11.2... Placed 42nd at the RMAC Championships as the Mavs' second runner... Led the Mavs with a 37th place finish at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships... Ran a career-best 10K time of 32:30.2 at that meet.
2017 (Junior): Ran in five of the team's six meets... Was the Mavericks' No. 3 man at both the RMAC and NCAA South Central Regional Championships... Played 42nd and 45th at those meets, respectively... Named as the RMAC Summit Award Winner for having the best GPA (4.00) of all athletes competing at the RMAC Championships... Was selected to the RMAC All-Academic First Team... Had a season-best 8K time of 27:03 at the Fort Hays State Open... Ran the regional championship course in 32:38.5 in his 10K debut.
2016 (Sophomore): Competed in four races...Ran a season-best of 28:01 for 8K at the Mountaineer/Cowboy Invite... Placed 73rd at the RMAC Championships.
2015 (Freshmen): Competed in two races finishing 28th at the Joe Vigil Open... Had a season-best 8K time of 27:21.8 a week later at the UC Riverside Invitational.
Prep: Placed fifth at the 4A Region 4 Cross Country Championships as both a junior (2013) and senior (2014) while running for the Berthoud High School Spartans… Won both the Liberty Bell Invitational and Littleton Runners Roost Invitational as a senior… Had a XC PR of 16:19 at the Liberty Bell… Also competed at the state championships in both of those years finishing 66th (2014) and 75th (2013)... Took second at the Tri Valley League meet (2014) and third (2013)... Set a 1600m track PR of 4:36.89 to place second at the league meet as a senior (2015)... Won the 3200m title at the Weld County Championships that year with a PR of 9:53.27.
Personal: Son of Chris and Lisa Spitz… Sister Josei is a pole vaulter at Colorado State University… Is majoring in business with a concentration in finance… Chose CMU because of the opportunity to run on the cross country and track teams.
