Ellie Ask were victorious in their No. 1 match against the University of South Carolina before CMU's
Regan Rothley and
Lauren Rohlwing delivered a flight four win against the University of Hawai'i on Friday in the Wildcat Spring Challenge action at the University of Arizona's Bear Down Beach.
As a team, the Mavericks lost both duals against the nationally-ranked opponents by 4-1 margins and saw their program-record 14-match winning streak come to an end while slipping to 14-6 overall this season.
All six losses have come against NCAA Division I institutions.
Spresser, a redshirt senior from Johnson, Arkansas, registered her 69
th career win in the morning dual against the 18
th-ranked Gamecocks as she and Ask posted a 21-16, 21-15 win over Jolie Cranford and Peyton Yamagata. That victory allowed her to surpass Sabrina VanDeList's former program record of 68.
She and Ask have a 16-4 record this season.
The Gamecocks had won the previous two completed matches in that dual before clinching the victory at No. 5.
However, Rothley and Rohlwing won the first set of their No. 4 match against USC's Juju Quintero and Julia Waugh, 21-18 before the Gamecock duo came back to win the second in extra points, 23-21. Quintero and Waugh then won the decisive third set, 15-11.
Against No. 14 Hawai'i Rothley and Rohlwing were 21-18, 21-19 winners over Julia Thelle and Sophie Buschmann as they moved to 15-1 on the season.
However, the Rainbow Wahine were able to win the other four matches in straight sets to claim the win after falling 3-2 earlier in the day to Florida Gulf Coast.
The Mavericks will continue the round-robin tournament on Saturday facing the host Arizona Wildcats and Florida Gulf Coast in what will be their final two matches of the regular season prior to the Apr. 17-19 AVCA Small College Beach Championships.
