GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The top-ranked Colorado Mesa baseball team scored eight unanswered runs in a 10-3 win over the Regis Rangers to complete the four-game sweep on Sunday (Apr. 19) afternoon at The Diamond at Hamilton Ballpark.
The Mavericks had seven pitchers make appearances and the group finished with 12 strikeouts against only three walks and seven hits.
Alex Jennings was awarded the win after pitching an inning and a third and allowed a walk and two strikeouts. Jennings improves his record to 1-0 on the season.
Colorado Mesa trailed after the first (1-0) and the top of the third (3-2), but scored five in the bottom half of the third and the bottom half of the sixth to erase both deficits.
Kennedy Hara swung the hot bat for the Mavericks in the series finale. Hara went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four runs driven in. He had a RBI double in the bottom of the second and a two-run double to right center field in the third as a part of the big third inning.
He singled in the bottom of the fourth and earned his fourth and final RBI of the day in the sixth on a sacrifice line out to right field that scored
Joey Blank.
Brooks Bachman, Blank, and
Rocco DiFrancesco all finished with multi-hit games.
DiFrancesco went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. He blasted a solo shot to left center field as a part of the three-run sixth.
The series sweep was the 10
th of the season for the Mavericks who have now won 24 straight games. Colorado Mesa's last loss against a Division II opponent came against Cal Poly Pomona on February 7.
The Mavericks will have their conference bye week next weekend before traveling to Denver for a four-game series with MSU Denver which will be the final series of the regular season.
