DENVER, Colo. – The No. 1 Colorado Mesa baseball team split a doubleheader with the MSU Denver Roadrunners on Friday (May 1) afternoon at the Assembly Athletic Complex in the final regular season series.
In game one of the day, the Mavericks had their 24-game win streak snapped as their comeback fell just short in a 12-11 setback.
Colorado Mesa trailed 10-1 after four complete innings but charged back to take an 11-10 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh. The Roadrunners knotted the game at 11-11 in the bottom half of the inning and eventually took the lead in the bottom of the eighth.
The Mavericks loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth but were unable to scratch a run across.
Kennedy Hara led the Mavericks with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate.
Ezra Farmer went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and four runs driven in.
Cameron Cartwright continues to torture the Roadrunners as he went 2-for-3 with four runs driven in including a three-run home run in the seventh inning. He wouldn't be done on the day.
Jett Walker took the loss on the mound after throwing two innings and allowing one run on one hit and struck out two.
In the night cap,
Jackson Eisenhauer pitched six and a third of no-hit innings to lead the Mavericks to a 13-1 win over the Roadrunners.
Eisenhauer struck out the first batter he faced in the seventh then struck out his second batter, but he reached on a passed ball on strike three. The next batter he faced blooped a double down the left field line for the first hit of the game.
Alex Jennings entered the game following the hit and was able to record the final two outs of the game. The win moved Eisenhauer's record to 8-1 on the season.
Colorado Mesa scored in five of the seven innings they batted in including multiple runs in four of those.
Cartwright finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs scored and five runs driven in. He had two home runs in the game with one in the second and one in the fourth, both coming as two-run round trippers.
Hara went 3-for-5 while Farmer,
Tate Blasi, and
Joey Blank all finished with two hits in the game. Blasi had a three-run home run in the sixth inning.
The two teams will conclude the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at Noon.
