GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 3 Colorado Mesa baseball team swept both ends of the doubleheader with the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on Saturday (Mar. 28) afternoon at The Diamond at Hamilton Ballpark.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Mavericks scored in five of the six innings they batted in en route to an 18-4 win over the Orediggers.
They scored 18 runs on 19 hits with only six extra base-hits.
Noah Neufeld and
Ezra Farmer both finished with four hits in the game. Neufeld went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and seven runs driven in. Neufeld drove in the first two runs of the game with a double to left field in the bottom of the second inning.
The Laguna Beach, Calif. native also had a two-run double in the fifth inning. In each of his plate appearances, he drove in a run including a bases loaded walk in the fifth.
Farmer finished the game 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and three runs driven in. The San Jacinto, Calif. native had an RBI double during the nine run, fifth inning.
Joey Blank and
Trevor Tse both finished with three hits.
Cole Seward earned the win on the mound to move to 3-0 on the season. Seward allowed one run on six hits walked two and struck out five in four innings of work.
Aidan Biaggi and
Logan Gross combined to pitch the final three innings of the game.
In the night cap,
Jackson Eisenhauer pitched five scoreless innings to lead the Mavericks to a 10-2 win over Mines.
Eisenhauer (4-1) scattered a pair of hits in his five innings and retired nine in a row from the final out of the first until the two outs were recorded in the fourth inning.
Gabe Jacobs pitched the final two innings to close out the game.
Colorado Mesa hit home runs in three consecutive innings to build an 8-0 lead after five innings of play. The Orediggers answered with a pair of runs in the sixth inning but that was all they would get in the game.
Four Mavericks finished with two hits.
Ezra Farmer finished the game 2-for-4 with a three-run double in the second inning that got things started for CMU.
Later that inning,
Cameron Cartwright homered to left field to give the Mavericks a 5-0 lead. It was Cartwright's fourth home run of the season.
Tate Blasi had an RBI double in the third inning and was followed by a
Joey Blank two-run bomb to left center field making it 8-0 for the Mavericks after three complete. He round tripper was Blank's fourth home run of the season.
The Maverick scoring concluded with a two-run home run to left field by
Tate Blasi in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was his third home run of the season as he made his return to the field after an injury limited him to DH duties in the fourth game of the season.
Colorado Mesa runs their record to 29-3 on the season and extended their win streak to 11 games.
The two teams will conclude the series on Sunday with a single nine-inning game beginning at Noon.
