LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The No. 3 Colorado Mesa baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Colorado Christian Cougars on Saturday (Mar. 21) afternoon at All-Star Park. The Mavericks and Cougars played two entirely different games with game one going as a pitching dual and game two a shootout.
There were only 10 total hits in the first game of the day with five hits going to each side. But it was
Trevor Tse's single in the top of the seventh that broke a 2-2 tie and saw the Mavericks take game two of the series 3-2.

Shane Crough on the play and would go down as the go-ahead hit.
The Mavericks scored their first two runs of the game in the fourth inning on back-to-back single by
Joey Blank and
Noah Neufeld that gave them a short lived 2-1 lead.
Colorado Christian scored a single run in the second inning and a tying run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Cole Seward got the start for the Mavericks and allowed two runs on four hits, walked two and struck out four in four innings of work. He did not factor into the decision.
Cayden Clark got the win in relief after pitching a scoreless sixth while
Sage Ferguson recorded his third save of the season pitching a scoreless seventh. Ferguson allowed one hit but stranded the runner at second base after back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.
In the night cap, Colorado Mesa scored in six of the seven innings the batted in and came away with a 16-7 win over the Cougars in game three of the series.
The Mavericks built a 16-1 lead before the Colorado Christian plated six runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut into the lead.
No Maverick had more than two hits in the game, but
Joey Blank delivered a pair of big blows in the contest. The junior had a two-run double in the first to get the scoring started then in the third inning he hit a two-run home run that put the Mavericks up 5-1.
Kolby Felix hit his ninth home run of the season in the second inning while
Ezra Farmer had a two-run triple in the top of the fifth inning.
Late in the game,
Chase Davidson had a two-run double to left field that capped the scoring for the Mavericks in the top of the sixth inning.
Freshman
Jackson Eisenhauer picked up his third win of the season on the mound. Eisenhauer (3-1) allowed one run on four hits, walked one and struck out five in four innings of work.
Rafael Espinoza and
Abe Ahlberg worked scoreless one inning outings before
Aidan Biaggi came in late to record the final two outs of the game.
The two teams will conclude the series on Sunday with a single nine-inning game beginning at Noon.
