FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.— The Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball team rolled to a trio of 5-0 wins on Friday here at Emmanuel University dropping just three total sets in victories over LaGrange College as well as NCAA Division II rivals Carson-Newman and Emmanuel.
The Mavericks are now 11-4 and have now won a program-record 11 straight matches, then of which have come by 5-0 margins. They are also 7-0 in their Spring Break trip to date, which continues on Saturday with matches over the same three foes.
Friday's win over Carson-Newman dropped the Eagles from the ranks of the unbeatens and dropped them to 15-1. LaGrange, an NCAA Division III foe, fell to 5-14 while the host Lions fell to 9-14.
The Mavs once again used the same lineup in the top four flights while
Ava Blanco,
Jessica Passi and
Stormi Tadlock rotated through in the Court 5 victories.
The Mavs' No. 1 pair of
Gracyn Spresser and
Ellie Ask have now won 12 straight matches while their No. 2-4 pairs have all won 11 straight and are each 11-0. Spresser now has 65 career wins and could match the CMU record of 68, currently held by Sabrina VanDeList as soon as Saturday.
She and Ask won all six sets on Friday, winning 21-15, 21-8 against LaGrange before claiming a 21-15, 21-15 win over Carson-Newman's Paige Halcrow and Trinity Hafey. The Maverick pair, which is now 12-3 this season, then won 21-14, 21-10 over Emmanuel's Faith Kelly and Leagh Van Wyngarden.
At No. 2, CMU's
Ewelina Gacek and
Ania Swartzendruber, dominated LC duo Isabella Zentkovich and Jasmine Gross, 21-6, 21-5. The Mavericks then squeaked past Ava Potts and Emerson Ahsmuhs by a 21-15, 17-21, 15-12 margin in the dual win over Carson-Newman, one of three 3-set victories the Mavs pulled out.
Gacek and Swartzendruber also posted a 21-8, 21-13 win over Maryn Barrow and Brooke Lee in the Emmanuel dual.
On Court 3,
Mikala Henderson and
Addie Ritterbush cruised in wins over LaGrange and Emmaneul and came from a set down to win over Carson-Newman's Addie Smith and Camryn Ehlers by a 13-21, 21-15, 19-17 margin. Henderson and Ritterbush are also 11-0 as a pair.
Meanwhile,
Regan Rothley and
Lauren Rohlwing were able to sweep all three of their No. 4 matches to improve to remain perfect as a duo. They were 21-6, 21-5 winners against LaGrange and posted pair of 21-19 set wins against Carson-Newman's Morgan Foy and Lucy Bartee. They then won 21-11, 21-11 against Emmanuel.
Tadlock played with
Ava Blanco in the dual against LaGrange, winning 21-12, 21-2 over the Panthers' Riley Curtis and Emerson Melvin. Tadlock and
Jessica Passi then claimed a 21-14, 17-21, 15-12 win over Madison Trondle and Kelcey Peterson in the Carson-Newman match. Blanco and Passi then won 21-9, 21-14 over Emmanuel's Madelyn Banton and Lauryn Kroenig.
The Mavericks have also gone perfect in exhibition matches throughout the week with
Avery Malek and
Jada Whitall playing at No. 6 while
Phoenix Slager has played with a variety of partners at No. 7.
