LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The No. 3 Colorado Mesa baseball team used a six-run second and an eight-run fourth to propel them to a 22-9, mercy-rule win over the Colorado Christian Cougars on Friday (Mar. 20) afternoon at All-Star Park.
The Mavericks (23-3, 9-0 RMAC) scored six runs in the second inning after trailing 4-3 after the first inning.
Kolby Felix reached on an error that forced in
Joey Blank with
Cameron Cartwright hitting his second of three home runs in the game. Cartwright sent a 1-2 over the fence in right center field that made it 7-4 at the time.
Ezra Farmer rounded out the scoring in the second with a two-run home run to right field making it 9-4 at the time.
Colorado Mesa plated eight runs on six hits in the fourth inning. The inning was highlighted by a grand slam by
Kolby Felix after two runs were forced in by walks. Felix's big fly gives him a team-leading eight home runs on the season.
Just a batter later, Cartwright hit his third home run of the game to make it 17-7 at the time. Cartwright had a solid at-bat going before hitting the ninth pitch he saw out of the park.
Cartwright finished the game 5-for-5 with four runs scored and nine runs driven in. He is the first Mavericks to hit three home runs in a game since Braden Winget did so on May 3, 2024 at Adams State.
The Parker, Colo. native was the last player to drive in seven runs or more in a game which happened in last season's RMAC Tournament game against MSU Denver on May 10, 2025.
Kolby Felix finished the game 1-for-3 with five runs scored and four runs driven in. He is the first player to score five runs in a game since current graduate assistant coach
Declan Wiesner did it against Adams State on May 3, 2024 against Adams State.
Farmer and
Joey Blank each had three hits.
Everyone in the starting lineup finished with at least one run scored and eight of the nine batters had at least one RBI.
Justin Schramm was credited with the win in relief, moving his season record to 3-0. Schramm pitched three shutout innings and allowed just one hit while striking out three.
The Mavericks have won 22 straight games against Division II opponents.
The two teams will resume the series tomorrow with a doubleheader (two seven inning games) beginning at Noon from All-Star Park.
