FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.— The Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball team continued to roll as the Mavericks posted their seventh and eighth straight wins on Wednesday here at Emmanuel University.
The Mavericks posted a 5-0 win over Truett McConnell University, an NAIA institution from Cleveland, Georgia in their first match of the day before dispatching of Erskine College, a NCAA Division II institution from Due West, South Carolina, by a 4-1 count later in the day.
The Mavericks are now 8-4 overall and 4-0 on their Spring Break trip thus far, which will continue here on Friday and Saturday after they take Thursday off from competitive action.
The TMU Lady Bears fell to 7-11 while the EC Fleet fell to 7-7.
Each of the Mavs' top four pairs went 2-0 on Wednesday with comfortable straight set wins.
At No. 1,
Gracyn Spresser and
Ellie Ask extended their winning streak to nine while improving to 9-3 on the season. They were 21-6, 21-15 winners of TMU's Julia Fisher and Emma Boulard and then crushed EC's Abby Platt and Kiki Pearson, 21-5, 21-7.
Ania Swartzendruber and
Ewelina Gacek also cruised in both of their matches on Court 2 and put up the Mavs' first team point in both duals. Against the Lady Bears, Swartzendrbuer and Gacek won 21-10, 21-8. They then won by 21-15, 21-6 against the Erskine Fleet.
Regan Rothley and
Lauren Rohlwing then put the Mavs up 2-0 in both duals with their fourth flight victories. The Maverick duo won 21-13, 21-8 against the Lady Bears and were 21-16, 21-18 victors over the Fleet's Hannah Platt and Mackenzie Fa'apouli.
Meanwhile,
Jessica Passi and
Stormi Tadlock delivered the dual clinching point at No. 5 against TMU. They were easy 21-4, 21-8 winers over Annabel Savers and Madison Ward.
Mikala Henderson and
Addie Ritterbush were also nearly as dominant in their No. 3 win over Camille Godfrey and Emily Reynolds, posting a 21-10, 21-8 victory.
In the afternoon, Spresser and Ask won the Mavs' third match against the Fleet while Henderson and Ritterbush followed with a 21-16, 21-14 win over Abby Johnson and Lily Pragle on Court 3.
The Fleet were able to win on Court 5 with Elly Davis and Rinnah Roberts sneaking past Tadlock and
Ava Blanco, 21-18, 21-17 in what was CMU's only lineup change of the day.
On Friday, the Mavs will play LaGrange College, Carson-Newman University and the host Emmanuel University Lions. They will play the same three teams on Saturday as a second match against LaGrange has been added to the schedule.
