LOUISVILLE, Tenn.— The Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball team dominated NCAA Division I Tennessee Tech University as the Mavericks opened up their Spring Break trip in the Southeastern United States with a pair of 5-0 wins over the Golden Eagles on Tuesday here at K2 Volleyball.
The Mavericks won for the fifth and sixth straight times to improve to 6-4 overall while the Golden Eagles fell to 2-11.
The Mavericks won every one of the official matches in straight set sweeps and held their Golden Eagle opponents to single-digit point totals in six of the sets.
The Mavs used the same lineup in both duals as all five of the Mavs' official pairs beat the same TTU opponents.
On Court 1,
Gracyn Spresser and
Ellie Ask won 21-18, 21-8 and 21-14, 21-12 matches over MK Roberts and Audrey Kilgore to extend their winning streak to seven straight matches.
Meanwhile,
Ania Swartzendruber and
Ewelina Gacek won their first match over Kyana Gabriel and Savannah Knepp by a 21-5, 21-10 margin. The Maverick duo then won 21-15, 21-13 in the second.
On Court 3,
Addie Ritterbush and
Mikala Henderson were 21-15, 21-7 and 21-10, 21-11 winners over Kaesha Walter and Jordyn Hamlin.
Regan Rothley and
Lauren Rohlwing also swept their No. 4 matches, claiming a 21-7, 21-18 win over Bailey Poppe and Piper Jones. The Maverick pair then won 21-12, 21-19 in the second dual.
Stormi Tadlock and
Ava Blanco paired for CMU on Court 5 and squeaked out a 24-22 first set over the Golden Eagles' Zoe Mish and Alanah Craigh before winning the second set by a much more comfortable 21-7 margin. IN the second dual, Tadlock and Blanco were 21-9, 21-13 winner.
The Mavs'
Phoenix Slager and TTU's Jolee McLain then paired up to play the all-Maverick pair of
Avery Malek and
Jada Whitall in a pair of exhibition matches. Malek and Whitall won both of those, taking a 21-19, 21-15 decision in the first dual before winning the second match, 21-6, 21-13.
The Mavs will now head to Franklin Springs, Georgia to play more matches throughout the weekend at Emmanuel University. On Wednesday, the Mavs will take on NAIA Truett McConnell University and NCAA Division II Erskine College, starting at 9 a.m. EDT (7 a.m. Mountain).
