#4 Mavericks claim 25-hour sweep of CSU Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. – The No. 4 Colorado Mesa baseball team swept a Saturday (Mar. 14) doubleheader from the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves to complete the four-game sweep in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series. The Mavericks won all four games in a 25-hour time span after the marathon Friday evening.

In game one on Saturday, the Mavericks received solid pitching and Kolby Felix acting as a one man wrecking crew in a 5-2 win in the nine-inning contest.

Jackson Eisenhauer earned the win on the mound as he pitched a career-high six innings against the ThunderWolves. Eisenhauer (2-1) allowed one run on four hits, walked none and struck out five in 62 pitches across his six innings of work.

He retired 11 batters in a row after surrendering a leadoff double to the first batter he faced in the game.

Liam Hohenstein pitched two innings of no-hit relief before Sage Ferguson came in for the ninth and allowed a home run but that would be all CSU Pueblo would muster.

Senior outfielder Kolby Felix finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four runs driven in. Felix homered in the third to tie the game at 1-1 as he sent a 3-1 pitch over the wall in left center field for his sixth home run of the season.

An inning later, the Sun City, Ariz. product gave the Mavericks a lead they wouldn't relinquish as he delivered an RBI single up the middle that brought home Jackson Lapiner for a 2-1 lead.

In the eighth inning, he hit his seventh home run of the season which gave Colorado Mesa a 4-1 advantage. He went oppo taco as he sent an 0-2 pitch over the wall in right field bringing home Keegan Landis in the process.

Rocco DiFrancesco gave the Mavericks an insurance run in the ninth inning on an RBI single up the middle that brought home Kennedy Hara for the 5-1 lead.

Felix, Hara, DiFrancesco and Lapiner all had multi-hit games for Colorado Mesa.

In the series finale, Colorado Mesa scored in six of the seven innings they batted in and out-hit the ThunderWolves during an 18-8, seven-inning win for the sweep.

Six of the Mavericks nine batters had more than one hit in the game and only two batters that saw action didn't record a hit. Only four of their 19 hits went for extra bases.

Felix, Hara, Ezra Farmer, Brooks Bachman, and Joey Blank all finished the game with three hits while Cameron Cartwright had two hits.

Aidan Biaggi earned the win in relief and moved his record to 5-0 without a start on the year. Biaggi allowed just one hit in the game during his inning and a third of work.

Jett Walker pitched two and two-thirds shutout innings and allowed just one hit through the middle innings of the game. He pitched 42 innings and gave the Mavericks stability and time to build the big lead.

Colorado Mesa also benefitted from five errors in the game as well as the entire series as CSU Pueblo fielded just .901 during the four games.

The Mavericks will be back out on the road next weekend as they take on Colorado Christian in a four-game series at All-Star Park in Lakewood. The series is scheduled to begin on Friday at 2:00pm.
