Mavs open season at D-I Idaho State

Hultman/Manzano win afternoon doubles match

POCATELLO, Idaho— Seniors Emil Hultman and Diogo Manzano claimed a No. 2 doubles win while Hultman won a set in his No. 3 singles match to lead the Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team in Saturday doubleheader at NCAA Division I Idaho State here in the Bengals' Reed Gym.

The Bengals won both matches, 7-0 and improved to 3-2 on the year as the NCAA Division II Mavericks began their spring season.

Hultman and Manzano were 7-6 (8-6) winners in the afternoon match-up against Sam Wensely and Tyler Dalos.

Hultman then won the first set of his singles affair against ISU's Hayden Ciguenza, 6-4 before the Bengals rallied to win the match with 6-3 victories in both the second and third sets.

ISU won the other 11 singles matches played throughout the day in straight sets as the teams made adjustments to their lineup to avoid repeat match-ups.

The Bengals were also able to sweep the doubles affairs in the morning and claimed wins a No. 1 and 3 doubles in the afternoon to clinch the doubles point before Hultman and Manzano's victory ended that session on a high note.

The Mavericks will play more indoor matches next weekend heading to the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center in Kearney, Nebraska where they will take on NAIA Hastings (Neb.) and NCAA Division II Northwest Missouri State in neutral-site match-ups on Friday (Feb. 13) before wrapping up the trip with a Valentine's Day match against the host Nebraska-Kearney Lopers.
