Fast Start Fuels #4 Mavericks to Road Win

DENVER, Colo. – The No. 4 ranked Colorado Mesa women's basketball team ran their win streak to 20 games after blitzing MSU Denver early in a 78-48 win for the Mavericks at the Auraria Events Center in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The Mavericks raced out to an early first quarter lead and outscored the Roadrunners 36-14 in the frame. They used a 15-0 run from the 7:02 mark in the quarter until 3:58 to go after a Hallie Clark three-pointer made it 22-2. They shot over 60 percent from the floor and were 8-for-14 from three in the first quarter alone.

MSU Denver also had eight turnovers in the first quarter which led to 15 Maverick points.

Colorado Mesa continued to put the clamps down on defense in the second quarter as they limited MSU Denver to 2-for-15 from the field and just five points in the quarter. The Mavericks built a 49-19 lead at the break.

The two teams played even in the second half at 29-29 but the first half was all the Mavericks needed to earn the win.

Colorado Mesa was able to score 21 points off 14 turnovers while also having a 16-5 advantage in second chance points.

Olivia Reed Thyne was flat out dominant as she finished with 29 points and 16 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season. She was 11-for-18 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free-throw line.

Hallie Clark was one off her career-high as she finished with 17 points on 6-for-13 shooting from the field and 3-for-9 from three.
