Reed Thyne, Rowland lead #4 Mavericks past Rangers

DENVER, Colo. – The No. 4 Colorado Mesa women's basketball team led wire-to-wire and in a 67-36 win over the Regis Rangers on Saturday (Feb. 7) afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The win gives the Mavericks 31 straight RMAC wins dating back to an early season contest a year ago at Regis. The win also clinches a spot in the RMAC Tournament for Colorado Mesa as they are seven games up on eighth place with six games to play in the conference season.

Colorado Mesa shot 44.1 percent from the field and had 22 assists on 26 made field goals in the game. They were better on the glass in the game as they had a 41-27 rebounding advantage with a 20-9 second chance point edge.

The Maverick defense continued to stifle opponents as they limited the Rangers to double figure scoring in just one of the four quarters of action. They limited them to just 30 percent from the field and under 18 percent from beyond the arc.

The 36 points tied for a season-low for the Rangers.

Olivia Reed Thyne was nearly unstoppable on the afternoon as she shot 13-for-18 from the field and finished with 29 points and pulled down nine rebounds. The Windsor, Colo. native outscored the Rangers in the first quarter 13-6 and fell just two field goals short of Regis' team total 15-13.

Mason Rowland recorded her sixth double-double of the season as she finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds which ties her season-high. She was one of three Mavericks to finish with a team-high five assists.

Regis was led by the 15 points of Kaylin Venick who shot 6-for-11 from the field. Teammate Jessica Bollwahn finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Mavericks will return home for a pair of contests in Brownson Arena. They will take on Fort Lewis on Thursday at 5:30pm before a Saturday matinee against New Mexico Highlands at 1:00pm.
