GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Ty Allred totaled a career-high 33 points while the Mavericks nearly scored the century mark this afternoon as the Colorado Mesa University men's basketball team finished their 5-game home stretch with a strong 95-83 victory over the UCCS Mountain Lions at Brownson Arena.
The Mavericks' win was their first in four tries against the Mountain Lions with today's victory avenging an earlier loss back in December when the two met for the first time this season.
The Mavs improved to 13-7 overall and to 9-3 in the RMAC while UCCS fell to 11-9 and 6-6 in conference. Colorado Mesa remains just three games behind first place in the tightly contested RMAC standings
The team's 95 points were the Mavs' most in a regulation game this season and the second highest total overall.
CMU never trailed and went on a 12-0 and extended 21-3 run in the first half to build as much as a 19-point (29-10) lead.
The Mountain Lions cut it to five later in the half before CMU pushed the lead back to 13 (95-83) at the half.
The Mavs then built the lead to as much as 21 points with 7:10 to go in the second half.
A late 12-4 run by UCCS threatened to bring the game closer at just a seven-point differential but a 5-2 scoring advantage in the final minute of play would help CMU put the game away.
Allred's career-high 33 points came on a 12-for-17 shooting performance with him also making three of five from 3-point territory. He would add a perfect 6-for-6 mark from the free throw line.
This was the second time Allred scored 30 points in his career with him previously scoring 31 points against Colorado Christian earlier this season on Dec. 6, 2025.
Maverick juniors Clayton Jewell and Ben Henderson both had double-doubles as well, marking the first time since Feb. 13, 2025 (at Fort Lewis) that two players have had one in the same game.
Jewell finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds, five of which were offensive.
Henderson had 16 points and 11 rebounds, nine of which were defensive, while adding seven assists.
Cohenj Gonzales also finished in double-figures for the Mavs with 11 points and six assists.
The Mavs had a season-high 26 assists as a team and shot 55.7 percent (34-61) from the field.
The assist total was their highest since Mar. 8, 2024 in the RMAC Tournament semifinals against Black Hills State (27).
The Mavs were 9-for-21 (42.9 percent) from 3-point territory and 18-20 (90.0 percent) from the free throw line. CMU led UCCS in all three major shooting categories with both teams tying at 34 rebounds apiece.
The Mountain Lions' Marzouq Ibn Abdur-Razaaq had 30 points and nine rebounds to lead UCSS with him also shooting 13-for-18 from the floor.
Xavier Martinez also finished with 17 points and nine of the Mountain Lions' 16 assists.
After going 4-1 on their 5-game homestand, the Mavs will now head on the road to face MSU Denver and Regis in Denver next Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Streaming can be found online through the RMAC Network.
