GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 9 Colorado Mesa women's basketball team extended their win streak to 15 games and won their 25
th straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game with a 74-43 win over the Westminster Griffins on Thursday (Jan. 15) evening in Brownson Arena.
The Mavericks defense was stout as they held the Griffins to 13 points or under in three of the four quarters including limiting them to five points in the third quarter. That led to the Mavericks building a 63-27 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
One of the other big discrepancies in the game came on the glass. Colorado Mesa had a 56-31 edge in rebounds which helped them take 15 more field goal attempts and a 25-10 advantage in second chance points.
Colorado Mesa held the Griffins to just 28.1 percent (16-57) shooting and to just one 3-pointer on 15 long range attempts (6.7 percent).
Senior
Olivia Reed Thyne finished with 24 points and 19 rebounds in 28 minutes of action. She logged her double double by halftime with 11 points and 14 rebounds at the break and did not see the floor in the fourth quarter.
Redshirt sophomore
Mason Rowland finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists while fellow big three member
Mykaela Moore had seven points and eight rebounds.
Colorado Mesa is now 18-1 overall on the season and remained unbeaten in the RMAC at 8-0. They won their last 17 conference games dating back to the 2024-25 season. They also are 5-0 at home with each of the five wins coming by 28 points or more.
The Mavs have also won five straight over the Griffins over the last three seasons, winning by 22 or more in all five contests.
Westminster fell to 3-10 on the season and 0-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. They were led by Teuila Nawahine who finished with 12 points while Madison Anderson and Klowie each had six rebounds.
The Mavericks will continue their five-game homestand next week as they are scheduled to take on Black Hills State and Chadron State next Thursday and Saturday.
