GOLDEN, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University redshirt sophomore distance runner
Chase Brown was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Summit Award Winner for Men's Outdoor Track & Field during a post-meet awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon at the RMAC Championships here at the Colorado School of Mines' Stermole Track & Field Complex.
The award is given to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average competing at the conference championship site. The Mavs have now won the award in four of the last five years as
Justin Thompson won the 2021, 2022 and 2024 honors.
Brown, who holds a 4.00 GPA while majoring in civil engineering, had also won the indoor track & field award earlier this year.
He is a native of Bloomingdale, Michigan.
Brown qualified for two events at the RMAC Championships, running to a tenth place finish in the 1,500 meters and a 19
th place effort in the 5,000 on Sunday. He set a career-best time of 4:00.60 in the 1,500 meter preliminaries on Friday and ranks seventh in CMU history with that effort. He set a career-best of 15:06.22 in the 5,000 earlier this this season, ranking fifth in program history for that event.
