SURPRISE, Ariz.— Colorado Mesa University junior
Jade Brilhante outlasted Annabelle Mulick, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 at No. 3 singles as the Maverick women's tennis team wrapped up their best season in more than a decade with a 4-3 marathon win over the Stanislaus State Warriors in the seventh place match of the 2025 Pacific West Conference Championships on Saturday.
The dual took four hours as Brilhante and Mulick battled for over three hours alone in what was the deciding match.
The Mavericks finished the season with a 17-11 record and their first two PacWest Tournament wins in their five years as affiliate members of the conference. The win total is CMU's best since 2014, when the Mavs went 17-9 and won both the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles.
On Saturday, the Mavs picked up two doubles wins to seize the early advantage and then went up 2-0 overall as
Makenna Livingston, the lone senior in the Mavs' lineup, won 6-1, 6-1 over Alyssa Tay in the top flight singles affair.
Livingston and
Delia Maier were also No. 2 double winners of Maiah White as Livingston finishes her brilliant 2-time All-PacWest career with 105 wins. Livingston also led this year's Mavericks squad with 15 singles triumphs while playing in the top spot of the CMU lineup in all but one dual.
The Warriors, who fell to 12-7 with Saturday's loss, did bounce back to tie the dual at 2 with wins at No. 6 and 5 singles and then went ahead, 3-2 when Emma Yu finished a 6-2, 6-4 win over CMU sophomore
Devyn Rodriguez at No. 2 singles.
However, Maier then closed out White, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) to level the score clearing the stage for Brilhante's eventual victorious battle.
The junior out of Hawai'i was also able to team with Rodriguez to deliver the doubles clincher, beating Mulick and Yu, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
