GOLDEN, Colo.— Ryan O'Loughlin took fourth in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase while
Christina Palmer did the same in the women's shot put to lead a smaller contingent of Colorado Mesa University Maverick outdoor track & field athletes competing on Saturday at the Kit Mayer Classic, hosted by the Colorado School of Mines.
A larger Maverick contingent was in Canyon, Texas for West Texas A&M's Jo Meaker Classic.
O'Loughlin ran to a time of 9:45.40 in the steeplechase.
Meanwhile,
Chase Brown ran to a time of 4:03.36 in the 1,500 meters, moving into the No. 8 spot of program history.
Seven of the 11 Maverick men in action during the day, most all of whom ran in the middle or distance events, competed in the 800 meters as
Kyle Towne led the group with a 12
th place time of 1:54.18.
Dylan Campbell was 13
th in 1:54.92, just off his season and career-best of 1:54.89.
Triston Charles was the Mavs' lone representative in the 5,000 meters. He finished in 16:34.70.
Jackson Berninger represented CMU in the 400 meters and placed 23
rd in 50.47.
Palmer led the Maverick women, posting a season-best throw of 13.25 meters (43 feet, 5 ¾ inches). She also placed ninth in the discus with a mark of 42.06 meters (138-0)
.
Waycee Harvey led a group of three CMU long jumpers, placing 12
th with a mark of 5.17 meters (16-11.5).
The Mavs also had four distance runners compete.
Wehazit Kelati took ninth in the 5K with a time of 18:58.39
Lauren Hodges placed 16
th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:53.01 while
Quin Gregg finished 22
nd in 5:00.46.
Gianna Kirking took 21
st in the 800 meters, turning in a time of 2:26.97.
