Mavs receive No. 4 seed in South Central Region

CMU faces Eastern New Mexico in quarterfinals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The only questions were what seed and what opponent.

The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team received the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional tournament, and will face Eastern New Mexico in the quarterfinals.

The team gathered at The Maverick Center to watch the selection show Sunday night and celebrate reaching the national tournament for the ninth time in program history.

Colorado Mesa (25-5) will travel to Denton, Texas, for the regional, with Texas Woman's University earning the No. 1 seed and host duties after winning the Lone Star Conference tournament on Sunday.

The regional is tentatively scheduled for Friday through Monday, with dates and game times to be finalized Monday.

The Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds (20-9) bowed out of the Lone Star tournament in the quarterfinals against Angelo State, but stayed in the No. 5 spot in the region.

The top six teams from Wednesday's regional rankings stayed put, with CU-Colorado Springs' upset victory over the Mavericks in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament title game putting the Mountain Lions (19-11) in the No. 7 spot against No. 2 Lubbock Christian (29-4). Adams State (19-11) slipped into the No. 8 seed against Texas Woman's (31-1) despite losing to UCCS in the RMAC quarterfinals.

UT-Tyler (25-4) is the No. 3 seed and plays No. 6 West Texas A&M (18-12).

Winners of the eight regions advance to the Division II Elite Eight from March 24-28 at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburg, Pa.
