COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University's Chase Brown was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Summit Award Winner for Men's Indoor Track & Field during the RMAC Championships on Saturday here at UCCS's Mountain Lion Fieldhouse.
 
The award is given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA who competed during the championships meet, amongst other requirements.
 
Brown, a civil engineering major from Bloomingdale, Michigan, holds a perfect 4.00 GPA.  He ran the 1,600-meter leg on the Mavs' distance medley relay team that finished tenth with a time of 10:50.63, the tenth fastest in program history at the RMAC Championships on Friday.
 
Earlier this season, he anchored the Mavs' to a school-record time of 10:11.53 at the Ichabod Invitational.  He also posted a career-best time of 4:23.31 in the mile at that meet in Topeka, Kansas to rank seventh in CMU history for that discipline.
 
Brown, a junior academically and redshirt sophomore athletically, is the second Maverick man to ever win the award in track & field joining 4-time winner Justin Thompson.
 
He has also earned four total RMAC All-Academic honors in his distance running career, picking up first team accolades in cross country during both the 2023 and 2024 seasons.  He was also named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's All-Academic Team for the 2024 cross country season.
