KEARNEY, Neb.— The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Rockhurst University in neutral-court action on Saturday afternoon here inside the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.
The Mavs, now 6-6 overall, were able to pick up a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles from
Catalina Ballon Marin and
Jane Steur but dropped the other two doubles matches by 6-1 scores.
The Hawks, now 3-1 on the year, then won at No. 1, 2 and 3 singles to clinch the dual. They were also up a set at No. 4 and 5 singles, matches that were left unfinished. The No. 6 singles match did not start.
RU's Ella Coleman, ranked 44
th in the ITA's NCAA Division II rankings, started the singles victories with a 6-1, 6-1 win over
Makenna Livingston in the top flight. Livingston was trying to record a second straight upset over a nationally-ranked opponent after beating No. 22 Fabiana Gamboa of Nebraska-Kearney on Friday night.
Meanwhile, Sofia Valdespino won, 6-2, 6-1 over
Devyn Rodriguez at No. 2 singles before Zuzanna Szmyd pulled out a 3-set, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) win over the Mavs'
Delia Maier at No. 3 singles.
CMU will be off next week and will begin the month of March with a Friday, Mar. 7 match at Division I Utah Tech in St. George, Utah.
