LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The No. 14 Colorado Mesa women's basketball team won their 10
th game in a row after a 78-43 win over the Colorado Christian Cougars on Saturday (Dec. 6) afternoon in the CCU Events Center to close out the conference opening weekend.
The Mavericks used a push in the middle quarters to push out to a massive double-digit lead. They outscored the Cougars 31-12 in the second quarter then after halftime used an 18-5 quarter to go ahead 63-27 heading to the fourth quarter. The final quarter was the only quarter Colorado Christian claimed with a 16-15 edge.
One of the other big edges the Mavericks had was from the three-point line as they were 13-for-34 (38.2 percent) to the Cougars 6-for-21 (28.6 percent) effort. They were also plus-23 on the boards which led to a 24-6 advantage on second chance points.
Mason Rowland led all scorers with 24 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field. She was also made as many three pointers as the Cougars as a team, finishing 6-for-9 from beyond the arc. The Durango, Colo. native pulled down six rebounds and dished out four assists.
Senior
Olivia Reed Thyne had an efficient night with 17 points (7-for-9) and nine rebounds in just 24 minutes of floor time.
Freshman
Hallie Clark finished with 10 points to round out the Mavericks in double figures.
Colorado Christian was led by the 12 points from Jordon Heckert.
The Mavericks improve to 10-1 on the season and begin the conference slate 2-0. They were just one of two teams (South Dakota Mines) that finished the RMAC opening weekend 2-0 with either MSU Denver or Adams State reaching that mark after their matchup tomorrow.
Colorado Mesa will host Colorado School of Mines next Saturday at 1pm to open the home slate of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule.
