Moore's Career Night Leads #13 Mavericks to big win over Mines

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Senior Mykaela Moore's career night catapulted the No. 13 Colorado Mesa women's basketball team to an 86-47 win over the visiting Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on Saturday (Dec. 13) afternoon in Brownson Arena. The 39-point win for the Mavericks was the largest in the rivalry since 1991.
 
The Mavericks started off slow and didn't score until 5:59 to play in the first quarter and proceeded to go on a 17-0 run. The run was capped by Olivia Reed Thyne converting her and-one, three-point play with 2:25 to play in the first quarter to make it 17-3.
 
They also used a 21-0 run between the third and fourth quarters to push the lead to 44 at 79-35 after a Reed Thyne layup with 7:38 to play.
 
The Mavericks shot 52.2 percent from the field and limited Mines to just 26.9 percent from the field.
 
The senior, Moore, finished with career-highs in both points and rebounds to lead the Mavericks. The Windsor, Colo. native had 21 points and 10 rebounds to finish with her first career double double. Her previous career-high was 12 points which she earned in a pair of games during her career.
 
Mason Rowland finished the game with 23 points on 9-for-19 shooting from the field while adding six assists and three rebounds. Rowland extended her streak of 20-point games to three and has scored 73 points in her last three games.
 
Reed Thyne had a game-high 28 points and earned her fifth double double of the season with 10 rebounds.
 
The three-headed monster of Reed Thyne, Moore, and Rowland had 72 of the Mavericks 86 points on the night.
 
Colorado School of Mines was led by the 13 points of Jenna Shandy.
 
Colorado Mesa is now 11-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. They are also now 3-0 at home this season with their average margin of victory of 35 points.
 
The Mavericks will head to the Great Northwest for their final two non-conference games. They will take on Northwest Nazarene on Friday at 7:30pm and will follow that up with a contest against Seattle Pacific on Saturday at 5pm.
