NAMPA, Idaho – The No. 11 Colorado Mesa University women's basketball team continued their winning ways this afternoon as they played their ninth-straight win over the Northwest Nazarene University Nighthawks in a 67-52 victory in the Nighthawk Classic at Johnson Sports Center.
The Mavericks now sit at 12-1 overall while defeating all four GNAC opponents they've faced this year. In addition, they haven't had a game closer than 15 points in their last seven matchups with their last game under that mark being a 57-49 overtime win against UT Permian Basin.
Host school Northwest Nazarene moves to an even 4-4 with the loss.
In total there were five different Mavs to score in double figures tonight with the pair of Mason Rowland and Olivia Reed Thyne leading the way as each recorded double-doubles. Rowland had 13 points with 11 rebounds while Reed Thyne added 14 points and 10 rebounds. The pair also combined for eight assists.
Joining the duo as the other top three performers include Mykaela Moore, Cayden King and Hallie Clark. Moore leads that group with 12 points while King added 11 and Clark had 10. Moore also had six assists to tie Reed Thyne for the team lead.
The Mavs ended the first quarter of tonight's game on a 6-1 run leading 18-11 before breaking away in the second quarter and going into half with a 43-23 lead.
They then built upon that lead into the second half to lead by as many 28 points in the game before battling off a fourth quarter comeback to secure the 15-point decision.
Colorado Mesa shot 41.9 percent from the field while recording a season-high 17 steals to bolster the win as seven different players recorded at least one steal apiece.
Continuing their stay in Idaho for one more night, the Mavs will take on fellow GNAC opponent Seattle Pacific tomorrow for their final game of nonconference action. Game time is set for 5 P.M. MST.
