NAMPA, Idaho – Olivia Reed Thyne scored a season-high 37 points while recording her seventh double-double of the year this evening as the No. 11 Colorado Mesa University women's basketball team handily defeated the Seattle Pacific University Falcons in an 85-55 victory at the Nighthawk Classic in Johnson Sports Center.
Racking up their 10th win in a row, Colorado Mesa is now 13-1 this season with them being just one of two teams in the RMAC to own more than 10 wins already. Seattle Pacific moved to 3-8 with the loss while dropping both games of their games at the tournament.
In addition, the Mavs have now defeated all six opponents from the Great Northwest American Conference they have faced this year.
Through one quarter the Mavs led 14-9 in the early goings of the game with free throws being a large factor as 12 of their first 14 points all came from the charity stripe.
Each team saw an improved second quarter with Colorado Mesa then going on a 15-7 run through the final four minutes to lead 38-30 at halftime.
The Mavs were able to continually build on their lead they established at the end of the first half outscoring the Falcons 31-12 in the third quarter and reaching a lead as high as 38 points in the second half as they dominated the rest of the way.
The Falcons were guilty of 18 fouls in the game as they had one player foul out and two players reach as many as four.
Reed Thyne led all scorers in the game finishing with a staggering 37 points and 16 rebounds. Reed Thyne had already collected her double-double by half time as well with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
This was Reed Thyne's second highest scoring total in her five-year career at CMU.
Joining Reed Thyne as other double figure scorers included Mason Rowland and Mykaela Moore with Rowland having 18 points and Moore adding 13.
The trio of Reed Thyne, Rowland and Moore combined for 16 of the team's 17 free throw points as Colorado Mesa went 17-22 from the free throw line total in the game.
Other top performers for the Mavs included Hallie Clark with nine points and six assists while Brooke Eyre added six rebounds off the bench.
Colorado Mesa dominated the rebounding column outboarding the Falcons 49-32 while also having 48 points in the point.
The Mavs will now get a couple weeks of action off for the holiday season before they return to Brownson Arena on January 3 to host Regis University for their continuation of RMAC play. Game time is set for 1 P.M. that day with more information to be released in the following weeks.
