GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 15 Colorado Mesa women's basketball team picked up a 92-53 lopsided win over Sul Ross State to close out the Maverick Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday (Nov. 29) evening in Brownson Arena.
The Mavericks shot 55.4 percent from the field which is the highest field goal percentage in a game since December 9, 2023 when they shot 58.2 percent in an 87-82 win over Regis. They added 45.8 percent from three-point range and 90 percent from the charity stripe.
Colorado Mesa led wire-to-wire for a total of 39 minutes and 48 seconds of the 40-minute contest. They built a lead as big as 48 points with 9:32 to go in the game after
Brooke Harding made a second chance three-pointer to make it 86-38.
The Mavericks made the biggest jump on the scoreboard in the second quarter as they only missed one field goal attempt and one free-throw in the quarter. They outscored the Lobos 29-12 in the quarter as they limited them to just two made field goals.
Olivia Reed Thyne led all scorers with 26 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the field without seeing the floor in the fourth quarter. The senior pulled down nine rebounds, had three steals and a block.
Mason Rowland chipped in 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and hauled in six rebounds.
Colorado Mesa played 14 players see action in the game and 11 of them ended up scoring.
Sul Ross State was led by the 13 points from Leslie Mojica and the 10 point six rebound effort of Victoria Aguayo.
Colorado Mesa improved its record to 8-1 on the season with two more non-conference games left on the schedule.
The Mavericks will open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next week on the Front Range. They will take on the UCCS Mountain Lions in Colorado Springs on Thursday before a matchup with the Colorado Christian Cougars on Saturday afternoon in Lakewood.
