Wagner Nets Milestone Victory in Route of Nanooks

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The No. 21 Colorado Mesa women's basketball team had an offensive explosion in a 102-53 win over the Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks on Saturday (Nov. 22) afternoon in the finale of the Westminster Classic in Behnken Field House.

With the win, Taylor Wagner won his 300th game as the head coach of the Mavericks and made him the all-time wins leader in program history. Wagner passes former head coach Steve Kirkham who had a record of 299-157 from 1988 to 2004.

The Mavericks led for 39 minutes and 44 seconds of the 40-minute contest and led by as many as 54 points with 7:41 to play after Cayden King buried a fast break three-pointer to make it 91-37.

It was also the first time the Mavericks eclipsed the 100-point mark since January 14, 2017, when they defeated Colorado Christian 103-72 in Lakewood.

The Mavericks enjoyed their best shooting night of the season as they shot 47.6 percent from the field and 44.8 percent from three.

Mason Rowland and Hallie Clark tied for the game-high with 18 points as both shot over 50 percent from the field and made three three-pointers in the game. Rowland finished the double double with a game-high 10 rebounds and stuffed the stat sheet with five assists and three steals.

Olivia Reed Thyne was 7-for-10 from the field and had 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds. She added three assists, four steals and two blocked shots.

Redshirt sophomore Cayden King finished with a career-high 10 points and added three rebounds in a tick over 15 minutes of floor time.

Colorado Mesa had 16 players get minutes in the game and 14 of those 16 wound up scoring points.

The Mavericks will have their home opener next weekend as they will host the Mavericks Thanksgiving Classic. They are set to take on Simon Fraser for the second time this season on Friday before taking on Sul Ross State on Saturday.
