Reed Thyne earns RMAC Defensive Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released the first series of players of the week for women's basketball on Monday (Nov. 17) afternoon. Colorado Mesa's Oliva Reed Thyne was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Mavericks first five games of the season.

Through the first five games of the season, the Windsor, Colo. native is averaging 13.6 points, 10.6 rebounds and nearly two blocks per game. She had a 15 point and 16 rebound effort in the season opener against Western Washington followed by a 17 point and 20 rebound game against Saint Martin's with both resulting in Maverick wins.

In the season-opening tournament, she eclipsed the 1,000 rebound milestone and is now just five rebounds shy of tying the all-time record of 1,032 held by Tonya Stites.

The award is the 11th time she has been named RMAC Defensive Player of the Week in her career.

Reed Thyne and the Mavericks will play a pair of neutral site games in Salt Lake City this weekend. They are scheduled to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville and Alaska Fairbanks at Westminster's Behnken Field House.
