GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— As part of this week's homecoming events, two former Maverick standout student-athletes will be inducted into the 2025 Colorado Mesa Hall of Honor class this weekend.
This year's induction class includes standout volleyball player Melissa Hess and groundbreaking men's golfer Brandon Bingaman.
Hess, was a 4-year starter for the Maverick volleyball team from 2011-2014. She earned AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) and D2CCA (Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association) All-America honors along with several All-Region and All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honors in her career as a Maverick. As a senior in 2014, Hess helped lead the team to a 20-match winning streak that included an RMAC Tournament championship run, which also propelled the Mavericks to earn the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for the NCAA South Central Region Tournament for the first and only time in program history. The Mavericks then advanced to the regional championship match as Hess was named to the All-Tournament Team.
She finished her career with 1,022 kills, 264 total blocks, and 1,191 total points all of which still rank in the top-10 all time in Colorado Mesa history.
Bingaman was part of the inaugural 2009-10 men's golf team at Colorado Mesa and took the program to new heights in the program's first four years. He played four years for the Mavericks golf team leading the team to their first two NCAA Division II Regional Championship appearances. In his 2012-13 senior season, he earned PING Division II All-American honors and Capital One Academic All-District honors.
Bingaman still ranks in the top-10 all-time in program history for several categories including low round (65), season scoring average (72.22), career scoring average (74.10), career rounds of par or better (42), and rounds of par or better in a season (19). Some of those marks were Maverick records that were just broken last spring by
Cole Beyer.
Both will be inducted into the Hall of Honor on Friday evening at the Victory Celebration in Asteria Theatre and then honored at halftime of the Mavericks' homecoming football game on Saturday afternoon at Stocker Stadium.
