ALAMOSA, Colo. – A goal in the second minute of play proved to be all the offense the Mavericks needed this afternoon as the #20 Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team played to a 1-0 win over the Adams State University Grizzlies at ASU Soccer Field.
Scoring just a little over a minute into play, Olivia Barrett had the game-winner in today's contest as she helped the Mavericks earn their 10th win of the season, improving to 10-2 while staying undefeated in RMAC play at 6-0. Adams State stays above .500 but moves to 6-5-2 (2-4-1 RMAC).
Barrett's quickly timed goal came with her dancing through a couple of defenders outside of the penalty area before launching a high chip shot at the net. The ball was initially touched by the goalkeeper on her shot but ricocheted off the top beam and into the net as she grabbed her second goal of the season on the score.
Beyond the early goal, defense dominated the rest of the game with only 11 shots total being recorded and zero of the Grizzlies' two shots being on goal. The Mavs took four shots in the first half and five in the second half with five of their shots being on goal.
CMU also had two corner kicks to Adams' one with only one card being drawn between both teams.
Shutting out the Grizzlies marked the Mavs sixth straight shutout of the season and ninth overall. They have yet to concede a goal in conference play and rank as a top-10 defense in the nation.
Staying on the road, the Mavs now head to Golden and Pueblo this coming weekend as they take on Colorado School of Mines and CSU Pueblo for a Friday, Sunday split. Streaming can be found online at the RMAC Network.
