CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team made it 4-for-4 in trips to the NWCA National Duals and trips coming home with a plaque. The Mavericks placed sixth in the National Dual Tournament after defeating Aurora in the consolation semifinal round and fell to Presbyterian in the fifth-place match in the afternoon. #6 Colorado Mesa 28, #10 Aurora 17
Colorado Mesa won six of the ten bouts on their way to a 28-17 win over Aurora in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. They got big points from three pins and a forfeit win as a part of the win.
The Mavericks won the first four matchups with a pair of pins, a technical fall and a decision. Maddison Heinzer earned a decision win at 103 pounds, No. 7
Sophia Cornish picked up a tech fall at 110 pounds, followed by back-to-back pins by
Jojo McDaniel at 117 pounds and
Brooke McCurley at 124 pounds.
After back-to-back wins by Aurora at 131 and 138 pounds,
Celina Cooke earned a second period pin of Olga Turiy at 145 pounds to stop the run.
Aurora picked up wins at 160 and 180 pounds before a forfeit win at 207 pounds by
Isabeau Shalack ended the dual.

The Mavericks and Blue Hose had a knock down drag out dual for the fifth-place plaque. The two teams split the ten bouts with each team winning five bouts, but Presbyterian had three tech falls and a pin while the Mavericks had just two tech falls and a pin.
Heinzer (103) and
Isabella Morales (110) opened the dual with a tech fall win and a pin to take a 9-1 lead after two bouts.
After a pair of Blue Hose wins at 117 and 124,
Hania Halverson stopped the mini run with a 7-2 decision victory over Kassey Daugherty at 131 pounds. Halverson finished the tournament with a 4-1 record.
Presbyterian won three of the last five bouts that included a pair of technical fall wins and a pin.
Erica Smith earned a decision victory at 145 pounds and
Isabeau Shalack finished off the dual with a 5-1 win over Ella Beam at 207-pounds.
