Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Dylan Weaver, Sports Information Graduate Assistant

Mavs outlast Grizzlies in 1-0 victory

Grand Junction, Colo. - An early goal in the first five minutes would prove to be just enough offense for the Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team today as in their second game of conference play against Adams State University they would emerge victorious in a 1-0 win.

Colorado Mesa is now on a two-game win streak and improves their record to 4-1-2 (2-0 RMAC) while Adams State drops to 2-4-1 (0-2 RMAC).

The Mavs' lone goal would come from Adessa Correa who has now recorded goals in back-to-back games. Today's match is also the Mavs' second-straight shutout. They have totaled three this season.

Correa would score in final seconds of the second minute after the Mavs' attempted two corner kicks. In the passing that would ensue after the second corner kick the ball would get caught up in the penalty box area where Sauvelyne Randel would tip the ball to Correa who would then chip the ball into the top left corner of the net to give Colorado Mesa the early 1-0 lead. Randel would earn the assist, her third of the season.

Correa's goal would be her first game-winner this season and the second of her career after totaling one last season.

CMU would outshoot the Grizzlies in the match as they took 14 shots with seven on goal compared to Adams State's four shots with none on goal. Abby Fotheringham would lead the Mavs with three shots herself.

Goalkeeper Keely Wieczorek for the second time this weekend would total zero saves, but still add to her shutout totals. She has now recorded three this season and 13 in her career.

Colorado Mesa will hit the road again this next week as they continue RMAC play with a trip up to Spearfish, N.D. to take on the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets. The two will face off on Sunday, October 6th at 11 a.m. at Black Hills Power Sports Complex.
