Mavs continue hot conference start in 2-0 victory

Spearfish, S.D. - The Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team would improve their win streak to three and continue their hot start to conference play today as they defeated the Black Hills State University Yellowjackets in a 2-0 decision in their only match of this week.

The Mavs now raise their record to 5-1-2 (3-0 RMAC) while the Yellowjackets stay winless and drop to 0-6-4 (0-3-1 RMAC).

A pair of seniors would do the damage for the CMU offense today as both Abby Fotheringham and Adessa Correa would score goals. Fotheringham now has four goals on the season while Correa has three.

Fotheringham has also now scored three game-winning goals this season to be tied for the conference lead.

Carli Dare would record an assist on both goals in today's match. Dare now has four assists and is the team leader in assists.

The Mavs would score one goal in each half of today's contest as the first score came in the 31st minute. On that score, Dare would cross the ball to Fotheringham on the other side of the penalty area, leading Fotheringham dancing through a couple defenders and putting the shot into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Correa would help seal the game away in the 80th minute on a long pass down field from Dare that she would take past a defender and then chip right over the goalkeeper's head to make the match 2-0.

In total, the Mavs attempted 23 shots on the day with 10 of them on goal. BHSU would only attempt five shots with two on goal.

Goalkeeper Keely Wieczorek would only record two saves on the day, but now mark her third straight shutout of the season and fourth total.

In their last three games, CMU has outscored opponents 9-0.

Colorado Mesa will continue RMAC play this next week as they stay on the road for a couple of matches over in Denver. CMU will take on opponents Colorado Christian University on Friday, Oct. 11 and then Metropolitan State University Denver on Sunday, Oct. 13. Game times are slated for 11 a.m. on Friday and then 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Both matches will be streamed on the RMAC Network with live stats to be followed along with.
