Randel scores twice to lift Mavs to 2-0 Victory

Lakewood, Colo. - The Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team would continue their winning ways and move their win streak onto four games this afternoon as the Mavs would beat the Cougars of Colorado Christian University in a 2-0 decision. Sauvelyne Randel would score both goals for CMU as the team is now 4-0 to start conference play.

Colorado Mesa's record now stands at 6-1-2 and 4-0 in RMAC. The Mavs 12 conference points are tied with MSU Denver for first place in the conference. With the loss Colorado Christian drops to 3-6-1 and 2-3 in RMAC.

Randel's two goals in today's match would both come in the second half, and each were within one minute of each other. She would tally her first game-winner of the season with her first goal of the day.

Both teams would play to 0-0 for the first 45 minutes with only seven shots total being attempted. The Mavs would attempt four in the first half.

In just a little over 10 minutes into the second half the Mavs would begin their offensive attack when in the 56th minute Randel would be fouled in the penalty box area leading to her second penalty kick attempt of the season. After being unsuccessful in her earlier attempt this season, Randel would make this one count as she fired a low bullet into the bottom left corner of the net and past the Cougar's diving goalkeeper  to make the game 1-0.

Less than a minute later Randel would score again as after the ensuing kickoff Adessa Correa would kick a long pass downfield to Randel who was breaking away from Cougar defenders. Randel would take the ball to the penalty area and fire a shot that was initially saved by CCU's Alana Lopp, but on the deflection of the save Randel would chip the ball once more at the net and score giving the Mavs the 2-0 lead. Correa would get the assist on the goal, her first of the season.

Randel would lead the Mavs with seven shots herself with Kylie Hoffman having the second most shots at two.

With the 2-0 victory the Mavs would secure yet another shutout this season and this one marks their fourth straight. They have five through nine games.

Keely Wieczorek would record two saves in this shutout as she now has accumulated 405 minutes (nine halves) of shutout ball. In her career she holds 15 shutouts.

The Mavs will continue their weekend in Denver now as they have tomorrow off before playing MSU Denver on Sunday. Gametime is set for 1:30 p.m. at Assembly Athletic Complex. The match can be watched on the RMAC Network with live stats available to follow along with.
