Grand Junction, Colo. - The Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team moves onto their next phase of the season this weekend as they now look to open conference play in a pair of home contests. CMU will take on opponents New Mexico Highlands University and Adams State University.
CMU will play New Mexico Highlands on Friday night at 7 p.m. before their final match of the weekend against Adams State on Sunday at 12 p.m. Both matches will take place at Community Hospital Unity Field.
Through five matches this season the Mavs currently hold a 2-1-2 record, with their most recent match being a 2-0 loss to St. Edwards University.
On offense they average 1.40 goals per game and have taken 79 shots as a team compared to opponents who have only taken 39 against them. Those 79 shots are the second highest taken in the conference.
Sarah Dunn serves as the team leader in goals this season as she has two herself. Five other players have scored one goal apiece. Sauvelyne Randel is the team leader in assists with two.
Dunn and Abby Fotheringham each have the team's two game-winning goals.
CMU is tied with opponents in goals scored versus scored against with seven each. Their seven goals as a team are currently sixth-best in the conference.
The Mavs' goalkeeper, Keely Wieczorek, has recorded 12 saves in five matches with a 1.40 goals-against average. She has one shutout this season.
Both of Colorado Mesa's opponents this weekend have fared decent seasons to this point with New Mexico Highlands at 2-3-1 and Adams State University at 2-2-1.
New Mexico Highlands is currently on a three-game losing streak coming into this weekend as they have been outscored 1-8 in that stretch. They have been outscored by opponents 5-10 this season.
Their offense has been bolstered by Kate Rayner and Acacia Rodriguez as each of them have two goals apiece.
The Cowgirls goalkeeper Peyton Greener has totaled 19 saves while facing 47 shots.
The Grizzlies of Adams State have been playing better as of late as they are currently on a two-game winning streak going into this weekend. They will take on Westminster University on Friday night before Sunday's match with the Mavs.
