Box Score San Antonio, Texas – The Mavs would play a tough 90 minutes in Thursday evening's game, but in the end would fare only a draw as the #14 Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team would end up tying with St. Mary's University 1-1.
CMU, still without a loss so far this season, moves to 2-0-2, while StMU moves to 2-2-1.
The provider of the Mavs' lone goal this evening would belong to Junior Braelyn Baclayon. This would mark the first goal of her career with the Mavericks.
Baclayon's goal would come quickly after the start of the second half, when in the 46th minute Parker Mairs would attempt a header into the net on a cross, but after a deflection of the ball off the goalkeeper, Baclayon would have an easy chip into the center of the net. Mairs would mark her first assist of the season off the deflection.
The Rattlers responded with a goal of their own in the 76th minute on a free kick attempt by Shelby Paniagua. Her attempt from outside the Penalty Box would fly over goalkeeper Keely Wieczorek's head into the top left corner of the net.
Both teams would have their fair share of shots in tonight's match as CMU would record eight and StMU would have seven. Baclayon would lead the Mavs with three shots herself.
CMU would have a season-high nine corner kicks in the match as well with all nine of them coming in the second half.
There would only be a combined four saves by both goalkeepers, with Wieczorek having just one of them.
Continuing their trip in Texas, the Mavs will get tomorrow off before heading down to Austin on Saturday, Sept. 21, to face off with the Hilltoppers of St. Edwards University. Game time is set for 10 a.m. at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
