GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 11 Colorado Mesa baseball team came out flat and fell to the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves 12-2 in the final game of the four-game series on Sunday (Apr. 7) afternoon at The Diamond.
The Mavericks were only able to garner six hits in the game and committed three errors.
CSU Pueblo was able to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the second before the Mavericks were able to get one back in the third.
Jonathan Gonzalez hit the first pitch he saw up the middle for an RBI single to score
TJ Rheem on the play to make it 2-1 and it would remain that way until the fifth inning.
The ThunderWolves would tally six runs in the fifth and four runs in the ninth to take a 12-1 lead before the Mavericks would get one back in the ninth.
Paul Schoenfeld would hit a pinch-hit double down the right field line that brought around
Caleb Thomason to score.
Thomason would be the only Maverick to have multiple hits in the game and those came after he was inserted into the game late.
The Maverick pitching staff combined to allow 11 hits and strikeout 13 but allowed four walks and three hit batsmen on the day.
Tristan Wolf took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season.
Colorado Mesa will have their conference bye week next week but will still have non-conference games at The Diamond. They are scheduled to host Chico State beginning on Friday at 6:05pm.
