GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Junior
Declan Wiesner hit a pair of home runs to lead the Colorado Mesa baseball team to a 10-6 win over the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on Saturday (Mar.16) afternoon in the opening game of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series.
Colorado School of Mines jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one and a half innings of action before the Mavericks mounted their comeback.
Wiesner hit the first of his two home runs in the bottom of the second inning as he smashed the first pitch he saw over the wall in left field to cut the Mines lead to 5-3 after two full innings of action.
The Orediggers scored the final run of the game in the top of the fourth inning after leadoff man I-Ly Hsue hit a run-scoring single but was thrown out at second base trying to stretch it into a double.
Colorado Mesa would go onto score seven unanswered runs from the bottom of the fifth inning on.
The junior catcher would hit his second home run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning as he belted a 2-0 pitched to straight away center field which gave the Mavericks an 8-6 lead at the time.
The Castle Rock, Colo. native would finish the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four runs driven in. The home runs were numbers three and four for him on the campaign.

Robert Sharrar went 3-for-5 to cap the Mavericks with a multi-hit game.
Evan Bunevich recorded the win after a superb performance out of the bullpen in relief of starter
Kyle Miller who pitched just two innings. Bunevich went seven innings in relief and allowed one run on four hits, walked three and struck out five to move his record to 2-0 on the season.
The two teams will continue the series tomorrow with a pair of seven-inning games beginning at 1pm from The Diamond.
