Women’s Soccer to conclude regular season against Westminster

Grand Junction, Colo. - The #18 Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team will look to finish the regular season portion of their schedule this week before heading into playoffs when they host the Westminster University Griffins at Community Hospital Unity Field.

The Mavericks and Griffins will face off on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. before the men's soccer match.

Both teams have already earned bids into the postseason before this game with the Mavs having sole possession of second place for the #2 seed in the RMAC Women's Soccer Championship. The Griffins have earned a bid as well but will know their seeding following this week's results. Further information on locations and seedings will be released later this week.

Colorado Mesa will enter tomorrow's game with a 12-2-2 overall record and are 10-1 in RMAC play with their only loss in conference coming against #1 Colorado School of Mines this last weekend. Prior to that loss they were on a nine-game winning streak that dated from Sept. 27 to Nov. 1.

Offensively the Mavs have been a top three team in the RMAC this season as they have outscored opponents 32-14 through 16 games. They currently average 2.00 goals per game while only giving up .88 goals per game in return. Their average of 15.9 shots per game also ranks third in the conference.

Eight different players have scored at least one goal this season for CMU with the leader of that group being Sauvelyne Randel who has scored eight goals herself, which is third best in the RMAC.

Abby Fotheringham has also contributed largely with six goals herself. Four of those goals are game winners.

Sarah Dunn, Adessa Correa, Kylie Wells and Braelyn Baclayon all have four goals to tie for third on the team.

Baclayon has bolstered this Mavs offense as of late as she has scored three times in the last five games.

Randel also serves as a team leader in assists with Carli Dare. Dare and her have both recorded five assists this year with Dare having two games with multiple assists this season.

The Mavs' goalkeeping unit has also been a strong point for the team this season as they are tied for third fewest goals given up in conference with 14. In RMAC play they have only given up seven.

Keely Wieczorek has started all 16 games for the team and in doing so has totaled 43 saves while recording eight shutouts on the season. In her career, she has totaled 18 shutouts which is just two away from the school record.

In this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 National Poll the Mavs would stay at #18 in the country following last week's results. They retain their #3 spot in the South Central Region rankings as well.

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT
The Mavs will take on two opponents this week with the RMAC Women's Soccer Championship starting on Sunday at 1 p.m. but until the seedings are dropped the only confirmed matchup that CMU has this week is against Westminster tomorrow.

Coming from Salt Lake City, Utah, the Griffins are 7-4-4 this year with an RMAC record of 5-3-3. In their most recent match, they were defeated by Colorado School of Mines 3-0.

The Griffins have outscored opponents 28-14 this season and in conference play have scored 21 of those goals. Necie Gubler has scored six goals herself to lead the team. Chloe Pickett has scored five for second best on the team.

Three different players have logged time in the net for them, with Brooklyn Northcutt seeing the majority of the time starting 15 games. She has recorded 34 saves and only allowed 12 goals to help limit opponents to .93 goals per game as a team.

Tickets for tomorrow's game can be found online at cmumavericks.com/tickets. Streaming of the match can also be found on the RMAC Network.
