HUNTSVILLE, Ala.— Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball duo
Ellie Ask and
Barett Nolan dropped two more matches and will play in the 61
st place bracket of the AVCA Beach National Championships on Sunday here at the John Hunt Park Sand Volleyball Complex.
The Maverick duo also went 0-2 in modified pool play on Friday and began Saturday's action in the 49
th place bracket and dropped a 21-16, 21-10 decision to Florida International's Aleksandra Chudzik and Arianna Franklin. They then fell in the 57
th place bracket to North Florida's Cameron Humphries and Kenzie Murphy by a 21-16, 21-15 margin.
Ask, a freshman from Kasson, Minesota, who is competing in her first collegiate matches this weekend, and Nolan, a senior from Mission Viejo, California via Ventura College, will play Tennessee-Martin's Olivia O'Keefe and Riley Rushing in their first match on Sunday at 11 a.m. CST (10 a.m. Mountain).
The winners will play one more match for 61
st place at 1:30 p.m. CST (12:30 p.m. Mountain) while the losers will tie for 63
rd place.
The Maverick pair is one of just two from non-NCAA Division I institutions in the 3-day, 64-pair national championship event. They were seeded 63
rd.
