DENTON, Texas – The No. 7 Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team competed in a pair of duals on Sunday (Nov. 10) afternoon at Texas Woman's University's Kitty Magee Arena. The Mavericks came away with a pair of wins including an important Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual.
#7 Colorado Mesa 41, Texas Woman's 6
Colorado Mesa opened Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference duals on a solid note as they won nine of the ten bouts in a 41-6 win over the Texas Woman's Pioneers. Four of their nine wins came via the pin while two others were technical falls.
Maddison Heinzer opened the dual with a forfeit win followed by a win by pin by RMAC Wrestler of the Week
Sophia Cornish. The freshman earned the pin at 1:31 over Pioneer Victoria Pena.
After a Texas Woman's technical fall win at 117 pounds, the Mavericks rattled seven consecutive wins.
Alejandra Valdiviezo (124) and
Keyla Ajoleza (138) scored technical fall wins while
Celina Cooke (145) had the lone win by decision in the dual.
Hania Halverson (131),
Gretchen Donally (160), and No. 4
Jayleen Sekona (207) all picked up wins by pin. Halverson was trailing for portions of her bout before scoring the pin over Zejeda while both Donally and Sekona led wire-to-wire.
Maggie Smith picked up an injury default win at 180 pounds.

The Mavericks won eight of the ten matches to come away with a 37-9 non-conference victory over the No. 21 ranked William Jewell Cardinals to close out the day of matches. They had four match wins by pin, two by decision and two forfeit victories.
Heinzer (103) and Cornish (110) each received forfeit victories while
Alejandra Valdiviezo (124) earned a pin of Emarie Bolosan at 2:49 to give the Mavericks a 16-3 lead after four bouts.
After a technical fall win for the Cardinals at 131 pounds,
Keyla Ajoleza (138) and
Celina Cooke (145) recorded back-to-back pins to give the Mavericks a big edge heading into the final three bouts of the dual.
Freshman
Gretchen Donally trailed her 160-pound match 6-1 heading to the second period of action. Donally scored three takedowns in the second period, including the final one with roughly 10 seconds left, to give the Montana native a 7-6 decision victory.
Maggie Smith (180) earned a 12-7 decision victory followed by a pin at the two-minute mark by
Jayleen Sekona (207) capped the dual for Colorado Mesa.
