COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks claimed their third consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week award as sophomore middle hitter
Nicole Martin picked up Monday's honor after averaging 4.50 kills per set while hitting a combined .538 in a pair of RMAC sweeps last week.
Martin, a native of Colorado Springs and a 2023 graduate of Cheyenne Mountain High School, led the Mavericks with 14 kills and hit .500 in last Tuesday's road win at Chadron State. She then recorded 13 kills and hit .579 in Saturday's home win over Colorado Christian.
Martin's recognition is the first of her career and allows her to be the third different Maverick to earn the plaudit. Redshirt junior right side hitter
Sierra Hunt earned the Week No. X honor on Oct. 14 before senior outside hitter
Sydney Leffler picked up last week's honor on Oct. 21.
Martin has now recorded 216 kills (3.04/set) and is hitting .366, the third best mark in the RMAC. She ais also second on the Maverick squad with 48 blocks (0.68/set).
The Mavericks (17-3, 8-1 RMAC) have won nine consecutive matches and are in second place in the RMAC standings. They also moved up a spot to 16
th in this week's AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Poll, which was also released on Monday afternoon.
The Mavs are in Denver this week for a pair of RMAC Power Pod matches. They will play Regis on Friday at 6 p.m. and poll No. 1 MSU Denver on Saturday at 4 p.m. Neither will count in the RMAC standings. Both matches will be played at MSU Denver's Auraria Event Center.
