Klasner, Randel Lift Women's Soccer To 7-0

Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. – For 80 minutes, No. 5 Colorado Mesa couldn't break through a stingy Adams State defense despite the lion's share of the chances. With the Mavericks needing a goal to preserve their perfect start to the 2023 season, CMU relied on this season's top combination to provide the difference.

Sauvelyne Randel scored with 10 minutes left in the game off an assist from Haley Klasner to give the Mavs a 1-0 win over Adams State. The win improves CMU's unblemished records to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC.

The goal is Randel's seventh of the season and the assist is Klasner's fifth, both figures that lead the RMAC. Randel also leads the RMAC with four game-winning goals. Mikayla Eccher and Randel finished the match with three shots apiece to lead the Mavericks. Klasner had two shots on goal in addition to her assist.

Colorado Mesa outshot Adams State 14-2 and placed nine shots on target. Keely Wieczorek made two saves for the Mavs while Adams keeper Ashlyn Bartley made eight total saves, four in each half. Seven of Bartley's saves came before Randel found the net.

At 7-0, the fifth-ranked Mavericks extend their program record for the most consecutive wins to begin a season. The Mavs are two games away from equaling their longest season-opening unbeaten start  of nine games set in 2012, which included two ties alongside seven wins.

The Mavericks also remained undefeated through a grueling stretch of six games away from home spanning an entire month. In addition to notching true road wins this week at New Mexico Highlands and Adams State, the Mavs reeled off four neutral-site wins over schools from Texas, California and Kansas.

Colorado Mesa will have a mini-break with just one game next week, but it will mark a return home for CMU. The Mavericks will face Black Hills State on Sunday, October 1 at 11 a.m. at Community Hospital Unity Field, one month after their only previous home match, a season-opening win vs. Lubbock Christian back on September 1.
